Making our world better
EDITOR:
It has been a bit since I have written but Friday was Holocaust Remembrance Day and there is also a lot of news that suggests the “world” is not making progress in fairness and decency but rather regressing in many ways.
If you have a problem with another person or group because they are “different” than you because of race, color, religion, the place they originally came from or for any other reason. you might want to rethink why that is. It may not be your personal fault at all.
I am of a generation that heard so many things growing up that just would not be accepted today. I guess that means we are making a bit of progress but not fast enough. In any case, over time I have had to change my thoughts and attitudes about a great many things in the spirit of making myself a better person. I can only suggest that if you find yourself in this situation, you also should rethink these negative thoughts, attitudes and beliefs. It will not change the world in any big way, but it will change you in huge positive ways.
As an example, I can offer this. I was a Vietnam War combat veteran and I had PTSD upon my return. I did not realize it until a college professor, who was a psychologist and also a Vietnam veteran pointed it out and offered to work with me. It was life changing for me and also for those around me.
Realizing you need help and then doing something about it is not a negative. Not doing anything to help yourself is the real negative. Give it a bit of thought. A tiny bit at a time we can make our world and our society a bit better. Meanwhile have a wonderful winter. Hey, that is why we live here, isn’t it?
