Some people really hate to pay taxes. They claim, “taxation is theft.” I disagree. I see it as a method by which each of us is able to toss a bit into a purse from which, together, we are able to accomplish a good end that few of us could reach alone, to the ultimate benefit of the whole community.

Currently there are several millage renewals in the upcoming primary election Feb. 27. One close to my heart is the Health Benefits Assistance renewal. These funds are administered by the Dickinson-Iron Medical Care Access Coalition. As a board member, I see how this program helps to keep local families healthy. The millage is only 1/10 of a mill, but our staff is able to leverage that relatively small amount to achieve health care coverage and prescription assistance worth millions to the people of our two counties. It is likely that you know someone who benefits from these services but, ultimately the entire community benefits.

Please vote in the upcoming February primary election and support the millage renewal. Your neighbors need you.
