Tariffs will affect even products made in USA

I purchased a Stormy Kromer the other day. Inside at the back of the hat is an American flag and the statement: Made in USA in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula of globally sourced materials.

So, the hat is made here but the cloth it is made from is imported. Many products are made this way; assembled here, but the items that go into it are made in another country and are imports.

President Donald Trump may have put a 90-day freeze on the individualized country tariffs, but he has placed a general across-the-board 10% tariff on all imports.

This probably means the price will be going up on, generally speaking, everything that is assembled here with globally sourced materials.

As you may have heard, a tariff is a tax that is applied to imported items. In one sense, President Trump has just put a 10% sales tax on all imported goods. Yes, a national sales tax on imported cloth, car parts, food or whatever.

With respect to what he will do with this tax increase, my understanding is 20% will be returned to individuals like you and me, 20% will go for the national debt, and 60% will go to maintain tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.

Starting at $3.50/week.
