Chamber supports Bay millage renewal

The Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce proudly supports the renewal of the 0.9987-mill property tax for Bay College’s Iron Mountain Campus, which will appear on Tuesday’s ballot. This is not a new tax, but the continuation of vital funding that has sustained our local campus since 2007 and will allow it to remain a cornerstone of education, workforce development, and economic growth in Dickinson County through 2046.

Bay College’s Iron Mountain Campus has been a critical driver of opportunity in our community:

— More than 8,300 students served, including 1,900 graduates and more than 1,700 dual-enrolled high school students.

— 720 employees trained and 203,000-plus credit hours delivered locally.

— More than $2.2 million in payroll generated in Dickinson County and $582,300 in student spending contributing to our economy.

— Significant operational savings of $1.8 million for local students over the past 18 years.

For local businesses, Bay College is more than an educational institution — it is a pipeline of skilled workers, a partner in workforce training, and a critical asset for retaining and attracting talent. Programs in health care, emergency services, skilled trades, and business ensure that local employers have access to well-prepared, job-ready candidates.

“Renewing the Bay College millage is not just about sustaining a campus — it’s about investing in the talent, workforce, and economic health of Dickinson County,” said Alex Carey, board chair of the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce. “Bay College continues to deliver direct value to local families and employers, and this renewal ensures that impact continues for years to come.”

The chamber urges a YES vote Tuesday because:

1. It is a renewal at the same rate, not a new tax.

2. It keeps tuition affordable, providing Dickinson County students with approximately $1,110 in annual savings.

3. It strengthens our local economy and supports the industries that drive our region forward.

4. It honors the original vision of the Fornetti family, who made this campus possible for future generations.

The Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce stands with Bay College because investing in education means investing in economic growth, workforce strength, and community success.

We encourage all residents to stay informed and to vote yes Tuesday to ensure Bay College remains a strong, vibrant resource for our community.

Starting at $3.50/week.
