Examples of the love of Christ
I wonder if individually we see Christ and heaven as a limited presence and space or an infinite responsibility.
I believe Christ is not a person but the omnipresence of love and caring of all mankind and life in general. I believe one of our individual purposes is to help forward that presence of universal love and caring to the best of our ability despite the human roadblocks.
The roadblocks clearly include human fear of the another coming in the form of race, religion and differences in multiple other forms. They also come in the form of egos that feel superior or threatened as we see in supremist ideologies, class divisions, wealth divisions or the concept of the alien.
In this country, slavery and bigotry, along with the current deportation process we are now living through, are examples of individual and national failings. We also have historical and recent examples of the embodiment of that love and courage of action. Historically the Underground Railroad, and the civil rights movement of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s are clear examples of the love of Christ, as are those who cared for and protected the immigrants in Minnesota.
We will all have opportunities to embody this love. It may not be easy, comfortable or even safe, and not even seeming to affect anything, but as history shows every little bit added together can move a mountain.
