Saluting those who get the paper to your home

Bouquet

From Jennifer Flynn, Daily News circulation manager:

Today is International Carrier Day, and on behalf of myself and everyone here at The Daily News, I would like to take this moment to recognize all of our bundle haulers, carriers and motor route drivers for their hard work, reliability and dependability. We realize that it takes a special kind of dedication and commitment to deliver the newspaper day in and day out, six days a week, 310 days a year, in a timely fashion.

Most people do not realize the challenges our delivery people face, including bad weather, freezing temperatures, problems at our printing facility and vehicle breakdowns, just to name a few.

There are occasions where you will see the carrier’s family helping out so the carrier can participate in afterschool activities or they have postponed personal priorities to ensure your paper is delivered.

Carriers of The Daily News are proud, six days a week, to bring you local, state and national news; local and national sports; and money-saving coupons for food and gas.

We have been bringing The Daily News to you since 1921 and will continue to do so for many more years to come.

Please join The Daily News in saluting our 62 bundle haulers, carriers and motor route drivers for their hard work, commitment, and dedication in providing top-notch home delivery service.

If you would like to thank your carrier with kind words or something more, please let us know at 906-774-2772.

Family says ‘thank you’ for help recovering steer

Bouquet

From the Randy Peterson family, Crystal Falls:

On Aug. 9, we had an unfortunate incident occur at the fairgrounds during the Iron County Fair. My son’s steer was spooked and unfortunately got away from us and headed into the woods. With the help of volunteers, we searched for almost four weeks. On. Sept. 5, we received another call of a sighting. We had finally captured our steer.

The dedication and support from the community is beyond any words.

I would like to thank Williams Redi-Mix for still bidding and purchasing my son’s steer with the hopes of finding him; Tony Sikorski and Steve Gagnea for their countless hours of searching and tracking the steer; Jim Cihak for looking for the steer with his airplane; the Justin Dye family, Pam Stolberg, Chris Cain, Zach Gagnea, Dave Callovi, Mark Gasperini, 911 dispatch and for everyone who made phone calls to report a sighting and tried to help us. We will be forever grateful.

Starting at $3.50/week.
