Help Flivvers hockey to Pink the Rink

The Kingsford High School hockey players again invite the public to join them in embracing their pink side as January comes to an end.

If the weather allows, the Flivvers will have their third annual Pink the Rink night Thursday as they host the Escanaba Eskymos at 6 p.m. Central time at Mountain View Ice Arena.

Along with the game, a number of fundraising activities are planned to benefit the Dickinson County Hospital Foundation. Past efforts have supported items for local cancer patients and funding for the cancer program at Dickinson County Healthcare Systems.

Those attending the game are encouraged to wear pink clothing and compete for the best “Pinked Out” attire award.

The event also will auction off the pink jerseys the Flivvers wear at the game and allow fans for $2 to skate with those players after the game.

Breitung Township Schools will donate all ticket sales from the event, which also includes raffle baskets, a 50-50 drawing and a “chuck-a-duck” competition — tossing rubber ducks rather than pucks onto the ice.

Special concessions, and a pink lemonade stand round out plans for the evening.

It’s a good reason to take in a high school hockey game, perhaps with children or grandchildren, while sporting at least a touch of pink to benefit a good cause.
