Lawmakers make laws
Bouquets and Barbs
Barb: U.S. Rep Jack Bergman said, “The mass shootings. No one in this room, I know, wants to not do everything at all possible to prevent this. Last time I checked, the bad guys don’t care about laws. The bad guys don’t care about rules. So we can add laws and rules and restrictions all day long, but the bad people don’t.”
I shudder to think of his defeatist attitude applied to any other criminal behavior. Should we not have drunken driving laws and rules because drunk drivers “don’t care”?
Should we not license drivers, register vehicles, wear seatbelts, or regulate the auto industry because drunk drivers “don’t care”?
The implication is that criminal legislation doesn’t work, so we should throw all efforts to the wayside. The logic against the rule of law is absurd.
Is he against laws and rules that combat criminal behavior? Bergman’s disregard for our criminal code is unbecoming of a representative.
Lawmakers create laws. Do your job, or get out of the way.
