From Linda Tripp, Pembine, Wis.:

The Breen Senior Center, like all senior centers, provides a vital service to all senior citizens in our area. Not only do they provide a well-balanced, tasty meal several days a week, they provide an environment for camaraderie and badly needed social interaction with seniors' peers.

Unfortunately, everywhere we look, staffing shortages are causing disruptions in service. The Breen Center is no exception. Our patrons are increasingly distressed at the interruptions in the meal program they have come to rely on, possibly their only hot meal each day. Perhaps if the Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency could print an article in the Daily News stating the problems with federal funding or anything else that is contributing to the sporadic closures of our beloved Breen Senior Center, it would be easier for them to accept the temporary hardships.

Our clients may only be names on a sign-in sheet to some, but to the workers and volunteers, every one of these people are a part of our family. They need us and we need them. Please don't close our center, which is the biggest fear in the back of everyone's mind.

Sincerely, Linda Tripp, (one volunteer, among many concerned).
