Praise for MSU Extension office in Dickinson County

As long-time gardeners tending a vegetable garden, an orchard and a wooded lot of mixed soft and hardwoods, my husband and I have depended on the services of the Dickinson County Michigan State University Extension Office for advice, for soil samples, for testing my canner pressure control and for our own education.
I am not alone in this — if you attend the county fair, in the 4-H building are many beautiful examples of canned fruits and vegetables, jellies and jams with no additives and all products of healthy Upper Peninsula soil, water and air.
Yes, as gardeners and foresters we can learn a lot from the internet, but there’s nothing that will beat first-hand, face-to-face interaction with local farmers, foresters and gardeners and that comes from having the opportunity to drop into a local extension office, take a Master Gardener class, or attend special workshops on pruning your orchard.
Having an active Extension program is not “woke” — it is a smart choice to invest in a professionally staffed office that helps provide the opportunity for wholesome living in Dickinson County.
