More than a pound of cure

EDITOR:

Can you remember the saying “If it’s not broke don’t fix it.” I wished I had applied that to my life back in 1973. My wife had a kitchen timer that didn’t work exactly the way I wanted it to. It wasn’t broke, just not the way I wanted it to work.

So I took it apart, but I couldn’t get it back together. So my neighbor had one just like it so I tried to learn how to put mine back together by taking theirs apart. Needless to say, I bought two new ones to replace the ones I took apart.

It may be true for mechanical things to “not fix it if it’s not broke.” But there’s another saying; “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

When the laws in Michigan changed regarding physical therapist so that you don’t need a physician’s prescription to go I went. I had gone to a pain clinic and avoided one back surgery, but I ended up with one back surgery in 2008.

So when I started having pain in my lower back again I didn’t want to do the same thing and expect different results. I went to a physical therapist and wow!

Yes I’ve gone several times. I did over hear a gentleman at a restaurant say he wouldn’t go to a chiropractor because it would require more than one visit. I thought why do we think one visit can fix what I’ve done incorrectly for 40 years. Well my therapist has been more than one visit, but it’s been more than a pound of cure.

I can finally bend down and pick up things off the floor without extreme pain. “Try it you’ll like it.” Find a physical therapist to help you.
