Whether you do your own taxes or have someone do them for you, check closely to see if you are eligible and receiving this deduction. An accounting firm has missed this deduction for the three years I have been eligible. I have been paying hundreds of dollars more per year than I owe and am now faced with filing three corrections. Do not rely on the state to inform you of this error. They will only contact you if you owe it money.
