Appearance by Nugent mistake for McBroom

Ed McBroom, candidate for state Senate, must be real desperate, as he gleefully accepts the endorsement of the “Motor City Madman” Ted Nugent.

Nugent avoided going to Vietnam by multiple deferments, finally getting a selective service classification almost equivalent to 4-F by failing a physical exam where he showed up high on meth, soiling his underwear and not bathing for a month. (Editor’s note: Nugent has since said he made up that story, originally published in High Times magazine in 1977; he did receive several student deferments before being re-classified as 4-F in 1971, according to several online fact-checking sites.)

Nugent, another chickenhawk, like his idol in the White House, is a strong advocate for the Second Amendment (so am I) but when he had an opportunity to carry an M-16 in Vietnam, he declined. Instead, he runs around the state killing animals for sport — after all, they can’t shoot back.

This is just one example demonstrating how candidate McBroom shows disdain for veterans, by accepting support from an avowed draft dodger.

He also failed residents at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans as Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, responsible for the well-being of hundreds of aged and ill veterans who were abused and not properly cared for.

It took an investigation by the Attorney General and subsequent report of the systemic failures at the home before corrective action was taken.

Ed McBroom does not deserve the support of any veterans or their families.
