Kavanaugh needs to be confirmed

Melissa Lison wants to know what the rush is for Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment (Sept. 25 Letter to the Editor). Well, Melissa, I, like you, am an Independent but could be considered a Constitutionalist, meaning I believe that any and all laws passed by the federal government must be constitutional and our Supreme Court must also follow our country’s main document. Unfortunately the Democratic Party has always appointed judges that believe our constitution is a living, breathing thing that needs to be changed by the Supreme Court.

The only “legal” way our constitution can be changed is by Congress but in the last 50 years our top court has gone rogue by Democrat appointments, which made changes to laws by a “modern” interpretation.

If the Democrats take control in the midterms, Trump will never get any Constitutionalist appointed. The current Democratic leadership is so far left that they will not let anyone who upholds our Constitution get confirmed. This is a new era in politics with this party — gone are the days when appointments were made on a bipartisan basis. In the past, parties would appoint anyone that had sound judicial prudence history with maybe a few nay votes. Now all Democrats must vote the way their leadership dictates or suffer the ramifications — just ask Joe Lieberman.

The Democrats believe that a majority of constitutional judges would overturn Roe v. Wade, making abortion illegal. Don’t believe this argument — if it’s overturned, the power would go back to the states where it belongs per the Constitution.

It’s imperative that Kavanaugh is appointed before the midterms to ensure he is appointed, because historically the first midterm election goes against the current president’s party, which could mean the Democrats could take the majority. Believe me, if they do, Trump will never get another thing done during his term.
