Time for Schon to leave DCHS

It is a sad day in Iron Mountain after the Dickinson County Healthcare System’s board announced its intentions of keeping John Schon as administrator. It’s sad when the system doesn’t work for the greater good of the people.

I do not understand the strong hold the board has, most notably, Bill Edberg (personal friend of Schon) on Schon. He is a shrewd one, as proved by his exorbitant salary and outrageous pension. Did anyone notice his calm demeanor during the meeting? Rarely spoke, didn’t even know how many employees he employed — great manager, NOT.

I am a former medical staff coordinator who worked 14 years directly under the supervision — or lack thereof — of Schon. The guy is callous, damnably nasty, insensitive and heartless.

Now think of this. Schon made certain he got his pension, $1 million-plus, along with his administrative team and his “favorites.” Why on God’s great Earth did he not extend this to all the retirees and make certain they got the same treatment? That’s just plain shameful. These people who worked their hearts out for years and years and years, most certainly underpaid, depend on their pensions to make a living.

Have you no shame, Schon? How can you walk into that hospital every day knowing you have nothing worthwhile to contribute any longer? You can’t expect your employees to respect you, given you show them no respect.

And Edberg, get real, gloating on the buildings. So what? Buildings are nothing without employees.

Like I said at the recent county board meeting: “Success is not measured by the number of buildings you build or the amount of money you stick in your pocket; but it can be measured by the number of people you inspired to grow and have become successful as a result.”

You don’t even know your employees, Schon. Admit it, you failed miserably.

Be a big boy, have the decency to walk out on your own accord. When you do, let me know, because I want to be there, along with so many others, to applaud.
