It continually saddens me to see group pictures with no masks or social distancing being published in the Daily News. This would include golf outings, businesses and social organizations. Many of these are with participants in close contact of each other, without masks. I feel that the paper, in spite of publishing articles showing the necessity to follow the CDC guidelines, appears to be ignoring and promoting the opposite message.
As adults, we should assume the responsibility of setting a safe and healthy example for the youth. Unfortunately, instead I'm seeing the opposite. We are not showing good leadership when we are putting their health at risk. Again, Tuesday's edition of The Daily News showed the lack of care for these children and the community by including a photograph of the Kingsford Homecoming court of 20 students, shoulder to shoulder without masks, as well as the Homecoming king and queen.
This is a special time in the lives of these students and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so much of what they've looked forward to in high school has been taken from them. I feel that both the Kingsford High School and the Daily News did not do all they could to keep these children safe nor set a good example. Surely they could have been photographed in a safe and perhaps more interesting setting.
Kingsford High School has a responsibility to these children to keep them safe. And The Daily News has the opportunity to be a good example to the community to help lessen pandemic and the rise and spread of COVID-19 cases in this area.
