Groups need younger veterans

EDITOR:

Attendance at Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion meetings is at an all-time low, which affects our community functions and honoring our veterans.

We are appealing to all services and members to reach out to your fellow veterans and families — invite them to your local VFW or Legion posts to become familiar with the events and to support each other.

We have a lot of members who pay their dues, with the majority older than age 70. So there’s an immediate need for younger veterans to attend and become familiar with the positions of post commander, honor guard, finance officer and chaplain, to make the transition smooth when the acting officers are ready to retire.

Do you have an interest in carrying on the time-honored Legion’s history and tradition for our communities?

For God and country.
