The City of Iron Mountain Tree Board is extending an offer to residents of the city to purchase a variety of tree(s) that can be planted in the boulevard area of your property.

The Tree Board applied for and was awarded a grant by DTE in the fall of 2021 and planting will take place in the spring of 2022. The grant required that a diversity of trees be offered and to fill that requirement a total of five varieties have been ordered and are available to choose from. The price for a tree like this, balled with the roots in burlap with a 1.5-inch diameter trunk base has risen substantially in the last few years. These trees are being offered at a cost of only $35.

This price includes the tree, planting of the tree by the city Department of Public Works, a watering bag to help the owner to facilitate watering, mulch, and care instructions.

Receiving this grant was a tribute to the work the City of Iron Mountain and the tree planting we have been doing over the last several years. Trees not only enhance the beauty of our city, but also help with resale value of homes, help with traffic calming and offer ecological benefits from cooling in the summer and controlling water run-off, as well as for wildlife habitat and seed foods.

Order forms are available on the City of Iron Mountain web site for easy ordering. Simply go to the City of Iron Mountain website, search “2021 Special Tree Sale Flyer” to see the selection of trees available, then go to the order form. Forms are also available for pick up at the City Hall offices.

We ask that you list your preference(s) in order of most desired to final choice. A limited number of each tree is available as well as only the five species. Orders will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Orders will be accepted through mid March.

This spring, prior to planting, Tree Board members will check your preference for placement of the tree(s), then Miss Dig will confirm there are no underground concerns. If there is a problem and no alternative site is suitable, your fee will be refunded.
