Wolverines’ victories tell another story
EDITOR:
I would like to voice my opinion on some of Mr. Mansfield’s articles. I am a regular reader of his “From the Mound” articles in The Daily News.
However, before I begin, I want you to know that I always hope that my good friend, Tom Izzo, and the Spartans have a successful basketball season, going deep into the NCAA tournament. Unfortunately that did not happen this year.
I read the article published last fall about the Michigan football team and how they have underperformed. In it, Mr. Mansfield went to the extent of admitting that he would rather see the Ohio State Buckeyes win instead of the Wolverines. Shortly after those comments, the Wolverines proceeded to beat the Buckeyes, rather handily, and also went on to win the Big 10 championship. Unfortunately, Michigan did not fare well in the tournament, but I would think that most, if not all, Michigan fans would take a Buckeye win and Big 10 championship any time, any day, any year and consider it a huge success.
Now to the Michigan basketball team. Most recently, Mr. Mansfield offered his opinion, once again, saying that the U of M’s tournament bid was an “oops” and referred to them as “underwhelming and undeserving.” As we know by now, Michigan knocked off two top-rated teams and got to the Sweet Sixteen, where they gave Villanova a run for their money. In the future, he may want to simply report on sporting events as they happen and keep his personal, biased, inaccurate opinions to himself.
He also mentioned that he’s looking for area teams to offer sauerkraut with their hot dogs. Personally, I don’t think he needs any, since he’s been eating his words for some time now … maybe a little ketchup with them?
