No. 19 Alabama

handles Wisconsin

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Ty Simpson threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns, including two to returning star Ryan Williams, and No. 19 Alabama overpowered Wisconsin for the second consecutive year, 38-14, on Saturday.

Simpson completed 24 of 29 passes, with two of his misses being drops by Williams and freshman Lotzier Brooks. Williams finished with five receptions for 165 yards after missing last week’s game because of a concussion.

Simpson joined Mac Jones in 2020 as the only quarterbacks in school history to complete at least 80% of his passes and throw three TDs in consecutive games.

Danny O’Neil, subbing for injured Wisconsin starter Billy Edwards, had a 41-yard TD pass to Jayden Ballard.

Wolverines roar

past Chippewas

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Bryce Underwood passed for 235 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 114 yards and two more scores, leading No. 23 Michigan to a 63-3 victory over Central Michigan opn Saturday.

The 2-1 Wolverines and their freshman star bounced back from a lackluster performance in a loss at Oklahoma. Biff Poggi stepped in for suspended coach Sherrone Moore, who also will miss the school’s Big Ten opener next weekend at Nebraska.

Underwood completed 16 of 25 passes, including a 32-yard touchdown pass to Semaj Morgan. He played three quarters before watching the rest of the game from the sideline.

WR Marsh injured

in Spartans’ win

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Aidan Chiles completed 22 of 29 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown and also ran 76 yards Saturday to lead Michigan State to a 41-24 victory over Youngstown State.

With the win, the Spartans (3-0) are 10-0 against FCS opponents. Jonathan Smith became the first head coach in Michigan State history to open his first two seasons with consecutive 3-0 starts.

Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh, who had six catches for 94 yards in the first half, was on the sideline without his helmet and a wrap around his knee during the second quarter. He did not play in the second half and was not on the field or visible on the sideline.

Tigers ace Skubal

has clean scan

MIAMI (AP) — Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal had an exam that showed no structural damage after he felt some tightness on his left side on Friday.

“It’s all good news. The scan came back clean,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Saturday. “So obviously, that’s great for us and great for him.”

Hinch said Skubal returned to Detroit after the test. The left-hander is expected to have his next post-start throwing day on Monday.

Texas A&M jumps

to No. 10 in poll

NEW YORK (AP) — Texas A&M made a big jump into the top 10 of The Associated Press college football poll Sunday after its dramatic win at Notre Dame, and the Irish became the first team since 1988 to stay in the Top 25 with an 0-2 record.

Ohio State, Penn State and LSU remained the top three teams, with Miami moving up to No. 4 and Georgia to No. 5 even after a close call at No. 15 Tennessee.

Oregon slipped two spots to No. 6 despite a 20-point road win against Northwestern and was followed by Florida State, Texas, Illinois and the Aggies.

Bengals’ Joe Burrow

injured in victory

CINCINNATI (AP) — Joe Burrow left the Bengals’ locker room on crutches with a boot on his left foot after injuring his big toe during the second quarter of Cincinnati’s 31-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Burrow wasn’t made available for interviews after the game, and coach Zac Taylor also didn’t have an update on Burrow’s condition. That’s little reassurance for Bengals fans worried about their star quarterback.

Burrow was hurt when he was sacked by Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead. He was examined in the sideline medical tent and was limping before heading to the locker room

Cowboys top Giants

40-37 in overtime

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Brandon Aubrey kicked a 46-yard field goal on the final play of overtime after a tying 64-yarder to end regulation, and the Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Giants 40-37 in a thrilling duel between star quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Russell Wilson.

The Cowboys extended their winning streak against the NFC East rivals to nine games. It’s the longest active streak in the NFL among division opponents. Prescott beat the Giants for the 14th consecutive time since losing both starts against them as a rookie in 2016.

Overtime was on the verge of going scoreless after the teams combined for five go-ahead TDs in the final 12 minutes of the fourth quarter.

UCLA fires coach

DeShaun Foster

LOS ANGELES (AP) — UCLA has fired football coach DeShaun Foster after the team started the season 0-3. Athletic director Martin Jarmond announced the decision on Sunday.

The move came after the Bruins lost to New Mexico 35-10 on Friday, marking their second straight loss to a Mountain West Conference opponent. Foster, who took over from Chip Kelly in February 2024, had a 5-10 record with the team.

The Bruins were also defeated by Utah and UNLV this season. Tim Skipper will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season, which includes games against three highly ranked Big Ten Conference opponents.

Ex-boxing champion

Hatton dies at 46

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton, who rose to become one of the most popular fighters in the sport, has died. He was 46.

Hatton was found dead at his home in Greater Manchester on Sunday. Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

The news comes two months after Hatton announced he would return to boxing in December in a professional bout against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai.

Hatton won world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight. He was also a successful trainer, coaching Zhanat Zhakiyanov to a world bantamweight title win in 2017.

Hull wins Kroger

Queen City title

MAINEVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Charley Hull took advantage of top-ranked Jeeno Thitikul’s final-hole putting meltdown Sunday to win the Kroger Queen City Championship.

Thitikul — a stroke ahead after Hull bogeyed the par-4 17th — four-putted the par-5 18th from about 50 feet, missing a 5-footer and a 3-foot comebacker. Hull two-putted from about 30 feet, making a 2-footer for the victory.

Hull closed with a 4-under 68 to finish at 20-under 268 at TPC River’s Bend. The 29-year-old English player won her third LPGA Tour title and first since 2022.

Thitikul matched Hull with a 68. The Thai star missed a chance to become the first multiple winner on the tour this season.
