Moore reaches
plea deal
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in a criminal case that arose immediately after he was fired for having an inappropriate relationship with his executive assistant.
The deal was struck Friday, on the same day that a judge planned to hear a challenge to Moore’s arrest in December on three charges, including felony home invasion. Those charges were dropped in exchange for Moore pleading no contest to trespassing and malicious use of a telecom device.
Trump hosts
college summit
(AP) — President Donald Trump has predicted the destruction not just of college sports but the entire U.S. collegiate system unless the industry is fixed quickly.
Sports leaders who joined Trump Friday at a White House summit agreed that fix could only happen by raising more money to pay players. Trump suggested he would write an “all-encompassing” executive order within a week in hopes it would spark action from Congress. He also said he expected the order to trigger a lawsuit.
Many schools are drowning in red ink from paying players for their name, image and likeness while the rules for those payments keep evolving.
Berger leads
at Bay Hill
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Daniel Berger grabbed control of the Arnold Palmer Invitational by thriving on Bay Hill’s brutal, U.S. Open-like greens. He fired a 68 and built a five-shot lead at 13-under.
Akshay Bhatia shot 66 to get within five shots. The greens were described as anything between brown and dead.
Scottie Scheffler found that out when he had a bunker shot roll 30 feet past the pin. He was 10 shots behind. But Scheffler says the difficult test was nothing new for Bay Hill. Rory McIlroy says it could get really tough with no rain in the forecast.
Ogunbowale
arrested
MIAMI (AP) — Dallas Wings star Arike Ogunbowale was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery after police say she punched a man in the face at a Miami nightclub. Ogunbowale was celebrating early Thursday at the club E11EVEN after winning the Unrivaled championship with the Mist that night.
According to Miami-Dade County police records, Ogunbowale punched the man in the face, knocking him to the ground, and security cameras captured the act.
The Wings said they were aware of her arrest and are in the process of gathering more information. The county corrections department said Ogunbowale has been released from custody.
