Ohtani won’t
be pitching
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shohei Ohtani won’t make his next scheduled start on the mound because of left knee irritation and isn’t expected back in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ rotation for a while.
The two-way superstar received a lubricant injection just before the All-Star break last week and had been expected to pitch Wednesday at Philadelphia.
Ohtani, however, still didn’t feel 100% while playing catch this weekend, so he and the Dodgers decided not to even test the knee with a bullpen session. The four-time MVP hasn’t pitched since July 3, and it’s unclear when he’ll return to the mound. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says Ohtani feels no pain in the knee when hitting.

NBA deal
in the works
(AP) -- Oklahoma City is trading starting forward and defensive standout Lu Dort to Atlanta as part of a three-team deal that also has the Hawks sending former No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher to Dallas, a person with knowledge of the agreement said Sunday.
Atlanta also will receive Ryan Nembhard from Dallas and the Thunder will be getting three heavily protected second-round draft picks, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has yet to receive the necessary approvals from the NBA.
Angel Reese
injured
ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese left Sunday’s game against Chicago with a left leg injury. Reese’s knee buckled when she came to a jump stop under the basket early in the fourth quarter and she fell to the ground as she missed the layup.
She got up quickly, but went down again after a few seconds. Reese returned to the bench and the Dream ruled her out for the rest of the game. Reese was named a WNBA All-Star in her first season with the Dream, leading the WNBA with 11.8 rebounds and 14 double-doubles. She’s averaging 14.9 points per game.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- President Donald Trump presented the World Cup trophy to Spain, the winner of Sunday's final against Argentina. But in his eyes, the real victor of the world’s premier soccer tournament is the United States.
From the start, this year’s World Cup faced challenges and backlash, including over its migration policies and high ticket prices. Trump stirred controversy by intervening in a referee decision on a red card. Despite tensions with co-hosts Canada and Mexico, the event has largely been considered successful.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also attended the final, showing soccer's ability to bridge geopolitical divides.
No awards
for Messi
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Kylian Mbappé kept the Golden Boot award and Spain wouldn't let Lionel Messi get anything else.
Shortly after winning the World Cup title Sunday, the Spaniards claimed all three individual player awards, keeping Messi from leaving with any more personal hardware.
Rodri won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player, Unai Simón won the Golden Glove for the top performance by a goalkeeper, and Pau Cubarsí won the Best Young Player Award, beating out fellow 19-year-old teammate Lamine Yamal.
Mbappé totaled 10 goals and four assists this time for a France team that finished fourth. Messi ended up with eight goals and four assists after going without a goal or an assist Sunday for the first time in his last 12 World Cup games.
Rodri had no goals or assists in the tournament, but he was critical to Spain's possession-heavy style of play. He completed more passes than anyone (753) with 94% accuracy. He was involved in 1,803 plays, according to FIFA stats, nearly 200 more than anyone else in this World Cup.
