Koivun wins
3M Open
BLAINE, Minn. (AP) -- Jackson Koivun won the 3M Open by three strokes Sunday in only his third start as a professional, holding off Scottie Scheffler with a closing 5-under 66 for a tournament-record 25-under 259 total.
Koivun played a safe and steady game on a 97-degree afternoon at the TPC Twin Cities, going bogey-free for the second straight day after a 61 on Saturday gave him a three-shot cushion. The 21-year-old player who led Auburn to the NCAA championship last month confidently fended off the world’s top-ranked player in Scheffler, who surged into contention with a 63 while playing five groups ahead.
Scheffler had his fourth runner-up finish this season. His lone win this year came in his first start at The American Express in California.
Brissett stays
with Cardinals
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Quarterback Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals agreed to a reworked one-year deal Sunday and coach Mike LaFleur confirmed that the veteran is the team’s likely starter for Week 1.
Brissett was unhappy with his previous contract, which included just $1.5 million of guaranteed money for the upcoming season. His new deal is worth a reported $15.5 million. Brissett was the team’s starter for the final 12 games last year after Kyler Murray suffered a season-ending foot injury.
He did well individually with 3,366 yards passing, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions, but the Cardinals had just a 1-11 record in those games.
Heim captures
Brickyard 400
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Corey Heim passed team co-owner Denny Hamlin on the final restart Sunday then held off the hard-charging cars of Christopher Bell and Joey Logano to capture his first Brickyard 400 crown.
The 24-year-old has won twice this season, even though he won’t be driving full-time in NASCAR’s Cup series until next season. He’s the first Cup driver to win twice in his first 15 career starts since A.J. Foyt in 1965.
Heim did it this time with a daring outside move to overtake Hamlin, then leading the final 35 laps and holding off Bell by 0.287 seconds on Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s historic 2.5-mile oval.
Logano, last week’s winner, finished third, 0.972 seconds behind, again keeping team owner Roger Penske out of victory lane.
Norris ends
F1 wait
MOGYOROD, Hungary (AP) -- Lando Norris ended an eight-month wait for a Formula 1 victory with strong pace and a dose of good fortune to win the Hungarian Grand Prix. Norris lost the lead at the start to teammate Oscar Piastri but regained it after Piastri was struck by a slower car.
Piastri stopped with a gearbox failure, paving the way for Max Verstappen to take second, with Kimi Antonelli third.
Antonelli increases his standings lead with title rivals Lewis Hamilton fifth after a penalty for speeding in the pits and George Russell seventh after a near-stall at the start.
