to be sold
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Kroenke Sports and Entertainment says it has reached a deal to purchase the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno. The company led by Stan Kroenke made the surprising announcement Tuesday, saying it expects to close the transaction in early 2027. Kroenke’s company owns the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, English soccer club Arsenal, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids. The company has now added the Angels, whose turbulent 23-year tenure under Moreno’s ownership will finally come to an end.
Koivun added
to US team
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Jackson Koivun left Auburn three months ago and now he’s going to the Presidents Cup. Koivun was among six players added to the U.S. team for the matches at Medinah on Sept. 24-27. U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker left off Ryan Gerard, who is the No. 22 player in the world.
Koivun is the first player since Jordan Spieth in 2013 to start a year without a PGA Tour card and end the year playing in the Presidents Cup. International captain Geoff Ogilvy added a pair of Canadians in Nick Taylor and Corey Conners. He also took Ryo Hisatsune of Japan.
Germany hosts
World Cup
BERLIN (AP) -- Injuries and three straight losses in warmups have not dimmed hopes for host team Germany at the Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin. As a well-known German saying goes, “hope is the last to die.”
Germany is making just its second World Cup appearance. The first was when it previously hosted the quadrennial tournament in 1998. The German team reached the second group stage on that occasion and will be aiming for a medal this time, though the absence of star player Satou Sabally is a major blow.
Germany starts Friday with a clash against Spain. It then faces Japan on Saturday, before finishing Group A with a game it will be expected to win against Mali on Sept. 7.
