Darnold has
muscle injury
SEATTLE (AP) -- Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said quarterback Sam Darnold’s hip injury appears to be muscle-related and his status for next week’s game at Arizona is as yet undetermined.
Darnold was injured on Seattle’s first series of Wednesday night’s game against the New England Patriots. Darnold was sacked by New England’s Dre’Mont Jones and shortly thereafter limped off the field. He did not return.
Seattle beat the Patriots 13-10 thanks in large part to three interceptions in the fourth quarter.
Backup Drew Lock made just enough plays to give Seattle a chance, with his 45-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba tying the game in the fourth quarter following the first of the interceptions the defense made off Drake Maye.
Tagovailoa
suffers injury
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa left practice Thursday with an oblique injury. Tagovailoa bent over in obvious discomfort after throwing a pass during a portion of practice open to media and grabbed his right side.
He dropped to the ground for a few seconds before getting up and trying to shake off the injury. It’s unclear if he returned to practice. The Falcons listed him as a limited participant.
Tagovailoa’s first game with the Falcons is at Pittsburgh on Sunday. It’s the same spot where he made the last start of his rocky final season with Miami.
Morocco and
Spain tussle
CASABLANCA, Morocco (AP) -- Morocco and Spain are jousting over the right to host the 2030 World Cup final. FIFA has yet to officially announce which country will host the biggest match of the biggest event in soccer.
The dispute over the final comes with FIFA boss Gianni Infantino under intense pressure after UEFA led a successful revolt to scuttle his plan to sell stakes in the World Cup. By contrast six Arab nation federations including Morocco’s have backed him since that fiasco.
The tussle over the soccer match also comes with Spain still reeling from a massive border crossing by tens of thousands of migrants who pushed from Morocco into a north African Spanish enclave in late July.
