bounces back
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Jordan Marshall scored on a tiebreaking 1-yard run set up by an interception midway through the fourth quarter and Bryce Underwood ran for a 38-yard touchdown to help Michigan bounce back and beat No. 11 Oklahoma 17-10. The Wolverines were the butt of jokes all week after a lucky break put a second on the clock and gave Underwood another chance to complete a game-winning Hail Mary against Western Michigan last weekend.
They responded with a signature win under first-year coach Kyle Whittingham, who said Underwood had to show signs of improvement to keep his job and he did.
Verlander
might pitch
DETROIT (AP) -- Justin Verlander is making progress toward potentially pitching one more time in the last year of his playing career. Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch says the three-time Cy Young Award winner threw as hard as he has in more than a month off the mound on Saturday.
Hinch shared the update on Sunday before Detroit wrapped up a series against Colorado. The Tigers have planned a two-day celebration of Verlander's career when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates in two weeks during the last series of the regular season and they hope he can pitch.
The two-time World Series champion and 2011 AL MVP shared his plans to retire in July after 21 seasons in the majors.

Solheim Cup
DEN BOSCH, Netherlands (AP) -- The Solheim Cup is back in the hands of the Europeans. Lottie Woad had the honor of guaranteeing Team Europe would reach the 14 1/2 points needed to beat the United States.
Woad’s 2-and-1 victory over Auston Kim left the official score at 14-10 but Carlota Ciganda was assured of at least a half-point from her next-to-last match against Jennifer Kupcho. That was one of four matches still out on the course and the winning point was officially clinched by Ciganda about 10 minutes later.
Ciganda also won the point that retained the Solheim Cup for Europe in 2023. Europe wound up winning 15-13 and has won three of the last five editions.

Eastern
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Cam Edwards rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns and Alessio Milivojevic tossed two touchdown passes Saturday to help Michigan State to a 35-7 victory over Eastern Michigan. The Spartans (2-0) broke away from a close game at the start of the third quarter with two quick touchdowns.
Edwards ran for 2 yards on the first score and Milivojevic threw a 38-yard pass to Charles Taplin to put Michigan State up 28-7. Jazium Patterson added 7-yard score midway through the fourth quarter.
Milivojevic completed 12 of 20 passes for 170 yards as the Spartans outgained the Eagles (1-2) 472-219.
UW gets
a victory
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Abu Sama III and Damon Dupree ran for one score each to lead Wisconsin to a 36-9 win against Western Illinois on Saturday night. Sama ran 72 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game to put Wisconsin ahead 7-0. The score was the first of Sama's young Wisconsin career; the Iowa State transfer rushed for a career-high 107 yards on eight carries to go with one score.
Wisconsin safety Carson Van Dinter got a punt block, recovery and score with 7:54 left in the first quarter to push Wisconsin's lead to 17-0. Gavin Lahm kicked 30-, 49- and 51-yard field goals for the Badgers (1-1). The 51-yarder, with 2:30 left in the first half, pushed Wisconsin's lead to 23-6 and was Lahm's career high.
