WNBA moves
Game 6
The WNBA has moved Game 6 of the finals between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries to a 12:30 p.m. tipoff Thursday at the home area of the Atlanta Hawks so that the NBA can keep its previously scheduled primetime contest that day.
The WNBA worked with the NBA to move the game to State Farm Arena. That is where Games 3 and 4 of the championship series were played. The only way they could make it work was to play the early afternoon game. The Hawks have a home game that night against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the tip of that game was moved back an hour.
Jalen Williams
suffers injury
(AP) -- Jalen Williams has a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle and will need surgery. The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Williams’ diagnosis on Monday. General manager Sam Presti says a timeline will be set after the surgery happens.
Williams was injured on a drive with 1:14 remaining against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night. He went down underneath the basket on the Thunder’s offensive end. Williams’ ankle was draped by towels and players from both teams reacted with dismay and disbelief as a stretcher was brought out.
Markets get
NBA deal
MIAMI (AP) -- The NBA has struck deals with Kalshi and Polymarket, making them the league’s preferred prediction markets.
These agreements aim to provide integrity protections for NBA-related markets. They include limitations on offerings, transparency in suspicious patterns, and bans on league personnel trading on events. The NBA has similar guardrails with its sportsbook partners.
The league is also expanding agreements with sports betting partners like DraftKings to include prediction markets. The terms with Kalshi and Polymarket are for multiple years. These moves come after the NBA restricted certain types of wagering this season.
Vikings stay
undefeated
(AP) -- Brock Purdy and the 49ers couldn’t overcome all the injuries one more time. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs ran into the defending Super Bowl champions and their stingy defense. Only the Minnesota Vikings remain unbeaten and they battled to beat the Colts.
Sunday kicked off with Aaron Rodgers leading the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 16-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints in the NFL’s first regular-season game in France. It ended with the Seahawks shutting down Mahomes, Kenneth Walker III and the Chiefs in a 20-3 victory.
Sixers lose
to Pistons
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Joel Embiid wanted to play back-to-back games after a triple-double against Milwaukee. The 76ers still rested him against Detroit. The team suffered a loss to the Pistons, highlighting their reliance on Embiid.
Despite LeBron James stepping in at center, the Sixers were outrebounded and struggled without their star player. Embiid’s presence on the court has been crucial, as the team has performed significantly better with him. The Sixers also missed other big men because of injuries.
The loss underscores the importance of Embiid’s health for the team’s success.
