HOUGHTON — Iron Mountain blanked Houghton 3-0 on Thursday to wrap up the girls soccer season, placing second in the Upper Peninsula Soccer Conference behind Marquette.
“A couple tough losses cost us a chance to finish on top of the conference but we had a good year and being right on the same level as a school like Marquette is great for us,” said Mountaineers coach Zack Frorenza.
The Mountaineers (10-3-2) notched three goals in a five-minute span of the second half to defeat Houghton. Brianna Hoffman, Reagan Lundholm and Riley Poupore did the scoring.
Hoffman’s shot into the upper corner of the goal came on an assist from Hailey Ellis. Lundholm scored after a Poupore shot deflected off the post. A minute later, Poupore found the net on a cross from Ellis.
It was Poupore’s 19th goal of the season.
“We played a real solid game front to back, and it was a total team effort especially in the second half,” Frorenza said. “I want to thank our seniors — Hailey Ellis, Ashlee Klarich, Marisssa Klarich, Taylor Paul and Hailee Zambon — for displaying quality leadership for the rest of our team to follow and helping lay a solid foundation for our team to build on for years to come.”
