IRON MOUNTAIN — The Kingsford Flivvers shelled L’Anse in a 9-4 win on Tuesday.

The Flivvers (2-0) outshot the Purple Hornets 46-13 while 10 different Flivvers players scored a point.

Daunte Fortner had a hat-trick while Peter Ropiak had three assists. Four players had at least a goal and an assist.

“We did some things really well. This is a work in progress — new systems, terminology. It’s a lot for our guys to digest,” Kingsford coach Dennis Murvich said. “I thought from my standpoint, we scored 18 goals in two games. We’re doing something right. The first game we had 8 guys on the scoresheet, tonight we had 10 guys on the scoresheet. That’s awesome as far as I’m concerned.”

Kingsford took control early with a 4-1 lead after the first period.

Trey Bociek, Colin Watkins and Eamonn Weed each had an assist. Reece Fortner, Ethan Fox and TJ Burke had a goal and an assist while Nick Murvich had two goals and an assist.

Every Kingsford goal came on an assist.

Three different forward lines scored for the Flivvers, to the obvious satisfaction of Murvich.

“We need to be able to have some depth so we can compete with the top-tier teams in the UP,” Murvich said. “To get that kind of contribution from that many players is great, that’s exciting. There’s parts of the game as a coaching staff we say that looked awesome. Some of the passing was great, breakouts were great, offensive zone entries were great.”

For all the offense Kingsford poured on, Murvich said his team came out slow again.

“We came out slow. That’s the second game that’s happened,” Murvich said. “I got to figure out something. We might change our lines. We got to do something to get these guys.”

Kingsford hosts Jeffers on Thursday.
