Girls basketball: Nordics spill Cougars
EBEN JUNCTION — North Dickinson’s backcout combined for 38 points as the Nordics spilled Superior Central 55-32 in Skyline Central Conference girls basketball Monday.
JuliAnn Wickman scored 23 points while sophomore Briana Smith added 15 points with nine assists.
“Briana had a very nice game,” said Nordics coach Kirk Mattson.
Sophomore Hannah Clark grabbed 11 of the Nordics’ 30 rebounds.
The Nordics (7-7, 3-2), who shot 41 percent from the floor, held a 30-14 halftime lead.
“We pushed the ball very well and got a lot of transition buckets,” Mattson said. “We did a real good job of finding the open girl.
“We stepped up our defense. We played a very good team defense and comunicated a lot better.”
Emma Rondeau had 13 for the Cougars (2-10, 1-9).
“They just outplayed us,” said Cougars’ coach Greg Trowbridge. “We were a little sluggish. We had too many turnovers and at times we had trouble running an offense.
“I was impressed with the Wickman girl. She played a real good ball game and they moved the ball around pretty well. Emma played fairly well. We just had a hard time getting the ball in to her.”
The Nordics and Bark River-Harris meet Thursday at Carl F. Lemin Gymnasium.
Superior Central won the junior varsity game.
