Girls basketball: North Central beats Stephenson

POWERS — A fourth-quarter rally saved the North Central girls Thursday night in a 57-52 basketball victory over the Stephenson Eagles.

The Jets trailed by 10 points midway through the Skyline Central Conference matchup.

“Delaney Smith stole the ball when we were only up by two points,” said Jets’ coach Lee Vincent. “She really took control. The girls never gave up.”

Stephenson led 10-6 after the first quarter. The contest was tied at 26 at halftime.

“We had a slow first quarter,” said Vincent. “We took care of the ball. Only, we shot the ball too quick.”

Andie Arsenault scored 21 points for the Jets (6-8, 5-1). Natalie Dombrowski hit 17 and Chloe Wells had 10.

“This was Andie’s second (varsity) game,” said Vincent. “For a freshman to score 21 points, that’s awesome. We have high hopes for her.”

Autumn Rasner paced the Eagles (9-6, 7-4) with 17 points. Karlee Kuntze added 12.

“We played pretty good defense,” said Vincent. “Rasner is tough.”

The Jets, who won the jayvee contest by two points, travel to North Dickinson Monday. Stephenson visits Carney-Nadeau Monday.
