North Central boys spill Munising

POWERS — The North Central boys scored four in double digits Tuesday night in a 72-56 basketball triumph over the fourth-ranked Munising Mustangs.

Noah Gorzinski paced the Jets (14-3) with 22 points, scoring 12 in the second and nine in the third quarter. Nathan Dombrowski finished with 12. Trenton Schaff and Chad Holle added 10 apiece.

“I thought Noah played one of his best games this year and Chad gave us good minutes off the bench,” said Jets’ coach Adam Mercier. “I thought our bench play was real solid. We have good depth.”

Cade Contreras scored 21 points for the Mustangs (13-3), who trailed 54-42 after the third quarter.

“Contreras started driving to the basket and got on a roll in the fourth quarter,” said Mercier. “They got within eight points. We got a little nervous in the end. They had just four (second-half) fouls with two minutes left in the game. They were forced to foul and we hit 10-of-12 free throws. We knew they were a quality team. I’m sure they’ll be a scary team in the districts.”

The Jets hit 22-of-48 field goals and finished 21-of-24 from the free throw line. Munising was 9-of-13 from the line.

“I thought we played very efficient basketball,” said Mercier. “Our guards played excellent. We shared the ball well.”

The Jets, who dropped the jayvee game, host Bark River-Harris Friday. Munising hosts Manistique Friday.
