Shorthanded Mountaineer wrestlers drop two

HARRIS — Iron Mountain came up short on the scoreboard and in team numbers for Thursday’s high school wrestling meet.
The Mountaineers bowed to Manistique, 30-24, and Bark River, 36-18.
“We took seven wrestlers but by the time we got to Bark River only five were able to go,” said IM Coach Cory McLaren. “Having 12 kids on the roster and only able to send out five is frustrating.
“Hopefully, the flu bug is done with us. But come team districts we should be back to full health.”
In the Manistique match, Trevor Malburg (125) pinned Josiah Gilroy in the second period and Dominic Rossato (160) pinned Brenden Slater in the first. Jon Carrion (145) and Jacob Carlson (140) won by forfeit.
John Callahan (119) pinned BRH’s Kye Parni in the first period. Carrion (145) and Rossato (152) picked up wins by forfeit.
The Mountaineers compete Saturday in the Mid-Peninsula Conference tournament in Negaunee.
Iron Mountain is the site of the MHSAA Division 3 team district. The Mountaineers will face Menominee and Kingsford will meet Negaunee in the semifinals.
