Florence-Niagara track co-op opens season in Superior Dome

FLORENCE, Wis. — The numbers are up and so are the prospects for the Northwoods Storm track and field program.

The Florence-Niagara co-op contains 49 athletes — 26 girls and 23 boys.

“We’re looking forward to our co-op program,” said co-head coaches Karen Harrison and Joe Trudeau. “With our numbers looking good we see both the boys and girls teams being competitive.”

The Storm, competing in both the M&O and Northern Lakes conferences, open the season Thursday in the Superior Dome in Marquette.

“The boys and girls team are relatively inexperienced but the potential for success is present,” said the Storm head coaches. “We have athletes that are very competitive.”

The coaches listed Eric DeCremer, Joe Walstrom, Riley Hixon, Cole Carlson, Ben Oratch, Brent Dumke and Austin Tripp as key athletes returning to the boys team. The top girls are Ki’Eircidy Hannah, Sydney Weber, Jessica Oratch, Bailey Broullire, Haley Behrmann and Shayla McLain.

The Storm graduated five athletes who supplied many points last season — Caleb Jones, state qualifier in 800; Devin Dumke and Zach Rice, mid distance; Jarrod Millan and Jay Walstrom, sprints; and Shawna Broullire, mid distance.

Greg Brownson and John Stockel are assistant coaches. Pam Fleming is a volunteer coach.
