Knights boys’ roster split with experience

Track and Field

NORWAY — There’s 26 boys on the Norway High School track and field team. Thirteen competed last year and thirteen are breaking into the sport.

“We have an even split,” Norway Coach Al Trudeau said of the roster. “So I am counting on the experience to show the newbies the way for most part this year in track.”

Inocencio Stankevich, first in the 2017 UP 300 hurdles and second in the 110 hurdles, and Mitchell LeGrave, third in the UP 100-meter dash, lead the Knights.

“We should do alright at most places,” Trudeau said. “Last year Inocencio Stankevich did a great job in the hurdles, Mitchell LeGrave in sprints and part of my relays, Connor Ortman in the 400 and relays, Josh Bouldin in high jump, relays and, hopefully, this year discus.

“I am hoping I can get Isaac Hautamaki to place in the sprints and help in relays this year.”

David Loomis cleared 9-feet-6 in pole vault for third place in the recent Superior Dome meet.

“That was awesome since he has not done it since last year,” Trudeau said.

Norway was fourth in the dome meet.

“That was pretty good since that was the first time running our events,” Trudeau said.

The coach hopes some of the newcomers can contribute.

“I was impressed with Jeff VanHolla in the two mile, Brandon Dishaw and Colton Burner in the mile (just over six minutes) and Zach Powell in the shot put,” Trudeau said. “I think we should be OK this year.”
