Florence falls in Division 3 sectional

MARATHON, Wis. — The Florence Bobcats and Pembine senior Wyatt Marcy completed their golf seasons Tuesday in the WIAA Division 3 sectional at Pine Valley Golf Course.

The Bobcats posted a team score of 423. Sectional champion Manawa, 337, and runner-up Pacelli, 343, earned state berths June 4-5 at University Ridge in Madison.

“Tough course and conditions,” said Florence head coach Tom Beck.

Coleman 359 finished third, followed by Marathon 365, Sevastopol 370, Crandon 395, Crivitz 400, Thorp 406, Stanley-Boyd 407, Florence 423 and Shiocton 428.

Marcy recorded a 91, shooting rounds of 45-46 on the par-71 course.

Manawa senior Ryan Schuelke shot a sectional-low 73 and freshman teammate Peyton Schuelke followed with a 74.

Three golfers not from a state-qualifying team advance to the state tournament. Coleman junior Kasey Casper, 79; Marathon senior Shane Sonnetag, 79; and Crivitz senior Shane Bauer, 80, made up that group.

Matt Dishaw led Florence with a 92 (44-48), followed by Tommy Podnar 100, Evan Beaster 111 and Matt Johnson 120. Logan Doda also played for Coach Tom Beck’s Bobcats.

“The team had nice season despite the weather shortening it,” said Beck, noting third place in the Northern Lakes Conference and the first team sectional appearance. “It’s sad to see our seniors Matt (Dishaw) and Tommy leave the team.”
