Prep Baseball: Bobcats’ Krueger to play in Australia’s Goodwill Series

FLORENCE, Wis. — Nate Krueger once traveled “down under” for the Goodwill Series.

His brother, Florence High School junior Lucas Krueger, will also be making the trip later this year.

Lucas Krueger was selected to travel Dec. 20 with the American team to Auckland, New Zealand, and Brisbane, Australia, for the 12-game Goodwill Series XXV. Two Japanese provincial teams will also oppose the US team.

“This journey will help prepare players for a future career as a baseball player, either at the collegiate or professional levels, as they need to be in top physical and mental condition in order to compete every day,” said organizer and professional baseball scout Bob Williams. “The State Team Australian baseball players are the best in their country. Many are professional players and Olympic team players.”

Goodwill players will train with professional coaches, scouts and athletic trainers in preparation for a series of 12 games. They will stay with “Australian Billets” or host families, so that they may truly understand the meaning of Australian hospitality and the “Goodwill” part of the series, Williams said.

Nate Krueger is a member of the Quincy (Ill.) University baseball team. Lucas Krueger was an All-Northern Lakes Conference honorable mention catcher last year.
