KINGSFORD — Kingsford’s volleyball tournament trail continues Tuesday with an MHSAA Division 2 regional semifinal at Manistique.

Coach Jaclynn Kreider’s Flivvers and Kingsley (49-10-4 record) will meet at 5:30 p.m. (Central time).

Kingsford won its first district since 2014 by dominating Houghton 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18) on Friday. Kingsley captured a second district title in three years by spilling a solid Sault Ste. Marie squad 3-0 (25-23, 25-8, 25-12).

Jessica Leffler’s 25 kills and Maddie Bies’ 29 assists led the Stags.

“A little disappointed to have our season come to an end especially when we know we are better than how we played last night,” Sault High coach Lisa Moran told The Evening News. “We didn’t play to the level we were capable of.

“Our first game we played great. Great volleys and very competitive game. We struggled with errors and just couldn’t pull ourselves together in the last two games.”

The Blue Devils finished with a 33-6-4 record.

“Kingsley has a very, very good team,” said Houghton Coach John Christianson, his Gremlins falling to the Stags in past regional tournaments. “They have a real good outside hitter.”

The Kingsford-Kigsley winner takes on Cadillac or Gladwin in the regional finals Thursday at Gaylord.

Both Kingsley and Cadillac are among the Division 2 state honorable mentions in the Michigan Volleyball Coaches Association rankings.
