Girls basketball: Niagara cruises past Tigerton, 56-18

TIGERTON, Wis. — Niagara took an early 10-point lead and eased to a 56-18 win over Tigerton on Thursday.

Niagara jumped to a 10-point lead in the opening minutes and kept on the gas the rest of the night, holding Tigerton to just six points in the second half.

The Badgers (7-2) were led in their fourth straight win by a 14-point, 14-rebound night from Jaida Maki.

“She was our leader for us tonight,” Niagara head coach Karl Lamoreaux said. “Very nice night.”

Jasmine Racine added 12 points and Jessica Oratch had 10.

Lamoreaux said his team shook off the two and a half hour bus ride and got into a groove early in the game.

“I was very pleased that the girls came out ready to play,” Lamoreaux said. “You worry about that with a trip like today. Didn’t seem like we had any bus legs. We were ready to go. Aggressive attitude. We played well.”

Raven Dewhurst led Tigerton with nine points.

A win during the break keeps momentum going for the Badgers.

“It’s a good win over Christmas break where things your practice schedule isn’t regular,” Lamoreaux said. “Everything is jumbled up. It’s good to play well during this Christmas break. Some teams, when you get out of that routine, they can collapse on you but this team hasn’t. We’ll get back to regular practice when school starts back up. Happy we were able to win convincingly over break.”

Lamoreaux said Tigerton grew frustrated with the deficit and began attacking Niagara’s defense one on one much of the second half. It led to just six points in the final half for Tigerton.

Niagara JV won 35-23.
