Swimming: NLY runner-up at ‘Jingle Bell’

STURGEON BAY, Wis. – Forty-six swimmers from the combined Dickinson and Delta Northern Lights YMCA swim team captured second place in the nine-team Jingle Bell Meet.

Most of the 19 from the Dickinson County portion of the NLY team got a 4 a.m. start to Sturgeon Bay on a coach bus. Despite the early pick-up time, several swimmers successfully competed in new events at the meet.

Olivia Brooks swam the 50 breast, Allison Deuter completed the 50 fly and Chloe Flesch successfully swam the 50 breast — all for the first time. At eight-years-old, Fin Donahue demonstrated endurance in his 50 free debut.

The top team points earners:

Adelaide McRoberts, 49 points — Four firsts and one second in individual events.

Emily Bruns, 19 points — Third in 200 free

Kaden Matuszewski, 25 points — Third in 100 breaststroke, Kailey Matuszewski, 10 points — First in 500 free

Noah Richmond, 19 points

Ailie Achoenborn, 18 points

Samantha Scott, 11 points

Sierra Scott, 19 points

Sydney Scott, 19 points

Adelaide McRoberts and Sierra Scott, along with two Delta swimmers, Ava Getzloff and Adrianna Getzloff, earned firsts in both the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

Delaney Donahue dropped 14.85 seconds in 100 free. Carina Newman improved her 100 free time by 32.01 seconds. Juliet Newman dropped times in her 100 free and 50 back.

Elena Nelson and Kailey Matuszewski swam with two Delta swimmers, Alexis Olsen and Irene Neumeier, to place third in the 200 medley relay.

Aubrey Elliot swam in six events and Isaac Nelson completed four.

NLY continues its season Jan. 12 at the Hawaiian Swim Meet in Sturgeon Bay.
