Snowmobile: Iron River family races in MASTERS Terra-X

ONTONAGON — After years of dominating snowmobile drag racing, the Nordang family of Iron River took part in the first MASTERS Terra-X race at North Country Snowmobile Club.

The Northland Automotive and Powersports Team had four racers compete. Alex Nordang raced in the longtime circuit’s feature class, TOP GUN. He missed advancing to the TOP GUN championship “shoot-out” by only five seconds.

Nordang turned in a time of 41.24 seconds in his second run. He also raced in pro openstock, missing the cut in that final by only 7.5 seconds.

Alex’s brothers, Billy and Jack, also took part in this new form of racing. Billy raced in the stock 600 class where he missed qualifying for the final by less than five seconds. Jack raced in the junior class and also missed advancing to the final by a mere five seconds.

Alex, Billy, and Jack are the sons of Chris and Tracy Nordang of Iron River. Their nephew, Michael Nordang of Ontonagon, raced in the stock 850 class, and missed making the final by under eight seconds.

Nisula’s Travis Kaurala, midwestern states’ number one professional snowmobile hillclimber, jump- started Terra-X, by winning four of six classes.

MASTERS (Mid America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers) has been sanctioning snowmobile races for over 25 years. It was the MASTERS that previously sanctioned the snowmobile hillclimbs in Caspian and Florence.

Starting at $3.50/week.
