Swimming: McRoberts off to the races

Kingsford girl competing for Team Wisconsin in Indianapolis

IRON MOUNTAIN – Northern Lights YMCA swimmer Adelaide McRoberts is an all-star.

The 12-year old Kingsford resident is joining Team Wisconsin at the first ever Mid-State All-Star Swim Meet held today and Sunday in Indianapolis. The meets pits all-stars squads from Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana and Minnesota for bragging rights as the fastest state in the Midwest.

“We’re all just thrilled for Adelaide,” NLYMCA coach John Leech said. “This is quite an honor, and she is very deserving. Adelaide is talented young swimmer who works exceptionally hard at her craft.”

McRoberts, a member of the NLYMCA swim team for six years, qualified for five individual events and two relays at the all-star meet. That means she is considered a top-four swimmer in the state in her events.

She competes in the 50 and 100-yard breaststroke, 50 and 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard individual medley. McRoberts will join Team Wisconsin in the 200-yard medley relay and 100 freestyle relay.

McRoberts posted her qualifying times throughout the fall. She is one of 70 other swimmers making up Team Wisconsin, which includes Northern Michigan swimmers.

McRoberts, the daughter of Hank and Lisa McRoberts and a seventh grader at Kingsford Middle School, has enjoyed a tremendous swim season.

She has already notched qualifying times for the Wisconsin state meet and Midwest Regional. She has also broken four team records this season.
