Baseball: Rebels deny Bobcats in 10th

NLC Baseball

FLORENCE, Wis. — Win No. 400 will have to wait for Dave LaPoint.

LaPoint’s Florence Bobcats lost 2-1 in 10 innings to Laona-Wabeno in a Northern Lakes Conference matchup on Thursday.

Laona-Wabeno’s winning run was set up by a hit-by-pitch. Florence (2-1, 1-2) took the loss despite holding Laona-Wabeno to one hit.

The Bobcats’ only run came in the first inning, and they were held to just two hits.

Laona-Wabeno scored the tying run in the fifth on an unearned run.

“We could’ve wrapped it up in the first seven but we didn’t,” LaPoint said. “We could’ve been out of the inning.”

LaPoint is stuck at 399 career wins at least until the Bobcats host Elcho on Monday.

Cody Reubens and Blake McLain had Florence’s hits.

Braden Boettcher, Toby Wheeler and Kaden Schuls pitched for Florence. They gave up a combined seven walks with nine strikeouts.

Laona-Wabeno pitchers struck out 15 Florence hitters and walked three.
