Florence sweeps weekend games

MAUSTON, Wis. — The Florence High School softball team won all three games in a pool play tournament last weekend.

The Bobcats (3-0) beat Phillips 8-7 and also beat Cumberland 9-6 and beat Edgar 17-0.

It was Florence’s first time playing outside of the gym.

“It was very, very impressive the way the girls played,” Bobcats head coach Dan Robinson said. “I was so pleased.”

Florence compiled 33 hits on the weekend with 12 apiece against Edgar and Phillips, Robinson’s alma mater, with nine more against Cumberland.

Sidney Tomczak, Kendra Milan and Lacey Enders each homered against Edgar.

Kathleen Selden and Tomczak combined for a no-hitter and each struck out two and walked one.

Tomczak struck out three and walked two against Phillips. Jenna Springer homered and Tomczak hit a triple.

Tomczak struck out eight and walked four against Cumberland. Paige Uren struck out six and walked five. Selden hit a triple and Milan homered.

Florence plays three games at the Superior Dome on Friday in Marquette.
