FLORENCE, Wis. — Norway’s boys started the season with a first in the Florence Invitational.

“It was a great way to start off the season,” said Knights coach Al Trudeau. “We hardly had any practice on the track and nothing in field events. We did a very nice job.”

Norway turned back Northwoods Storm 164-139 for the title.

Norway highlights:

Mitchell LeGrave — first in 100, second in 200 and third in long jump. LeGrave’s 11.39 time in the 100 was .24 short of the meet record.

Zach Powell — first in discus

Adam Cavagnetto — second in 1600 and third in 3200

Hurdles — Evan Grosskopf, Wyatt Richter and Gabe Hautamaki in the top five

Pole vault — David and Adam Loomis first and second.

400 — Zach Seat and Joey Angeli in the top four

Norway also won the 400, 800 and 1600 relays.

“I was impressed with the underclassmen, for some this was their first high school meet,” Trudeau said. “All around this was a great team effort and the boys did a wonderful job for the first meet of the season.”

North Dickinson’s girls, with Alexa sweeping the sprints, took team honors for the first time since 1994.
