Baseball: Cardinals clip Bobcats

FLORENCE, Wis. — A four-run second ining triggered Crandon past Florence 14-2 in Northern Lakes Conference baseball Friday at Red Johnson Field.

Four Florence pitchers gave up 12 hits, walked eight and struck out two. Crandon pitching yielded seven hits, struck out 10 and walked one.

Toby Wheeler tripled and singled twice for Coach Dave LaPoint’s Bobcats (4-8 overall, 3-8 NLC). Kaden Schuls added a triple.

Crandon tacked on two runs in the third inning, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Florence closes out the NLC season Monday, meeting Goodman-Pembine at 4:30 p.m. at Niagara.

Niagara thumps

Goodman-Pembine

NIAGARA, Wis – Niagara put together a couple big innings in a 16-1 win over Goodman-Pembine on Thursday.

The Badgers (7-11) scored four in the second and added five each in the third and fourth to put away the Patriots.

Goodman-Pembine (2-8) scored its run in the fourth on an RBI double by Colby Nelson.

Josh Weber had three RBIs for Niagara. Ethan Sweig and Anthony Oslund had two RBIs. Landen Kaldor, Tristan DeJardin, Logan Carlson and Logan Bath had an RBI each.

DeJardin, Weber and Cole Sweig pitched for Niagara. They gave up a combined one run on two hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Nelson and Stanley Marusczak pitched for Goodman-Pembine and gave up 16 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits with five walks and two strikeouts.
