FLORENCE, Wis. — Elcho rallied twice in the late innings and spilled Florence 14-11 in Northern Lakes Conference baseball Monday at Red Johnson Field.

Coach Dave LaPoint’s Bobcats (2-7 overall, 1-7 NLC) scored six runs in the fourth inning for an 8-7 lead and added three in the fifth for an 11-9 lead. The Hornets rallied with three runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh.

Four Florence pitchers allowed 11 hits while three Elcho pitchers gave up 14.

Toby Wheeler led the Bobcats with a triple and three singles. Braden Boettcher, Blake McLain and Cody Reubens each had two singles.

The shorthanded Bobcats, fielding a roster of nine players, dropped a doubleheader Saturday to Three Lakes/Phelps, 5-1 and 5-4.

Boettcher allowed five Bluejay hits with five strikeouts and a walk in the opener. Kaden Schuls singled in the first inning for the lone Florence hit.

Deadlocked 1-1 in the third inning, Florence gave up four unearned runs with two outs.

In the second game, Florence pitchers Wheeler and Boettcher allowed three hits with two strikeouts and five walks. Bluejay pitching surrendered five hits including freshman Tyler Novak’s bases-loaded double in the fifth inning.

“I’m proud of the guys,” said Florence Coach Dave LaPoint. “We only had nine suit up and they gave a good effort.”
