Soccer: Kingsford shuts out Ironwood, 3-0

IRONWOOD — Kingsford’s offense surged with a 3-0 win over Ironwood on Tuesday.

The Flivvers were led by two goals from Paige Olson and a second-half goal by Liz Penegor.

“That first goal kind of energized us a little,” Kingsford head coach Jon Lorenzoni said. “We started finding some space outside for the strikers and we fed our center mid, who seemed to have lots of green to play with.”

Penegor’s goal, a long range kick that snuck under the crossbar, punctuated Kingsford’s offensive attack.

“She hit a dandy,” Lorenzoni said. “It’s a good thing she did it when she did ’cause all of a sudden a blizzard kicked up and we were kicking into a really gusty wind.”

Kingsford plays at Northland Pines on Saturday.
