Softball: Niagara, Crandon split doubleheader

NIAGARA, Wis. — Niagara split a non-conference doubleheader against Crandon on Tuesday.

The Badgers (9-9) won the first game 11-6 and lost the nightcap 10-6.

With M&O Conference seedings just about set, the split didn’t seem to concern Badgers head coach Duane Blagec.

“Everybody got to play and the weather was decent,” Blagec said. “We sang Koombiyo together — we really didn’t. It was one of them stress-free days where you go out and play the game.”

Noelle Champagne and Jayden Payette each pitched in both games for Niagara. They gave up eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts in the first game.

Niagara scored four runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to sieze control of the game.

In the second game, the duo surrendered 12 hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Isabel Wells had four hits including two doubles in the first game. Champagne had two singles.

Niagara scored three runs in the sixth but ran out of outs. Crandon scored two in the first and three in the second to take an early 5-1 lead.

Shannon Siebers and Amanda Evans both had two hits for Crandon.

In the second game, Payette had two hits for the Badgers.

Siebers had another pair of hits.

“Just a ho-hum non-conference doubleheader, buddy,” Blagec said.

Niagara visits Wausaukee on Thursday and hosts Coleman on Friday.
