Bruette, Selden named May Hometowne athletes

IRON MOUNTAIN — North Dickinson’s Matthew Bruette and Florence’s Audrey Selden were selected the May Hometowne athletes of the month.

Bruette qualified in three track events for the UP Finals. He scored 40 percent of the team’s points in the Skyline Central Conference meet. He has nearly half of the team’s total points for the season.

Selden is heading to the WIAA Division 3 state track and field meet at UW-LaCrosse in the 100 hurdles. She took fourth in the sectionals in with a school record 15.85. She also took first in the 300 intermediate hurdles during the season at Lena and North Dickinson. She was second in the M&O Conference meet.

The Hometowne Athlete of the Year banquet is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Recreation Lanes. Athletes of the month and committee’s choice athletes are eligible for the award.

Anna DeForge, a Niagara, Wisconsin, native and former University of Nebraska and WNBA player will be the guest speaker. The event is open to the public with tickets available at the door.
